The Tenacity of a Two-Year-Old

How can living with tenacity help make your dreams a reality?

What can you do, right now, to bring you one step closer to living a life by design?

The little boy I wrote this about is now a three-year-old big boy, but he is tenacious as ever!

He is ferociously dedicated getting what he wants. He rarely fails to get just what he desires.

The following, “The Tenacity of a Two-Year-Old” is an excerpt from my book, Living F.I.T.: A 40-Day Guide to Living Faithfully, Intentionally and Tenaciously.

The Tenacity of a Two-Year-Old

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12 ESV

I love my third born. He was a happy surprise baby whose face strongly resembles my beloved late grandmother. He also resembles her in his nature. He is quite tenacious! He sees what he wants and will not quit until he gets it. Unlike my middle child who dissolves in tears when he can’t make his way, my two-year-old is a problem solver. If he wants something high up on a shelf, he finds something to climb on. If he can’t open a door, he goes to our utility drawer, finds a screwdriver and attempts to remove the door handle. He can put on his own shoes, jacket and hat and has recently figured out how to get in and out of his seatbelt in the car.

These are not amazing feats; many two-year-olds can do these things. It is not the actions that amaze and inspire me, but rather the determination, persistence and tenacity with which he works toward achieving his goals and desires regardless of what obstacle may stand in his way.

My two-year-old lives his life steadfastly under trial. No matter how many times he is told no, he continues to ask and work toward receiving what he desires. He is so consistent in his effort, not only is he rewarded with his wishes but sometimes, his cup overflows! Tenacity is essential for accomplishment in anything that you do. Without drive, determination and a strong-willed attitude, one’s level of success at many endeavors will be limited in scope.

Any successful business person will agree that their achievements have been made possible due in part to their tenacity. The same goes for living a healthy, active life and the same should also be said about living a life for Christ. You will encounter naysayers. You will come across those who do not love and support your decision to live a healthier life for Christ. These people may try to tear you down and if you are not steadfast in your belief, you become vulnerable to succumbing to their negativity. Be like my two year-old. Have the willpower to never back down. Look to God for your strength for He has promised riches far beyond your wildest dreams; but only to those who have the faith and tenacity to believe in Him regardless of their circumstances.

Dear God, thank you for life! Please encourage me to live tenaciously for you so that I may do fearlessly what you have called me here to do. In your holy name, Amen.

F.I.T. Step: Make today count by being relentless in your pursuit of the things that are pleasing to Christ. Do not back down, do not doubt, listen for God and tenaciously follow suit.

Are you ready to begin living your life with tenacity?

I took my son’s example and I am living a life by design and loving every minute! Decide to live with tenacity today, right now, and I promise your life will be forever changed for the better. Trust in God, step out on faith and embrace your inner two-year-old!
