Cultivating an Attitude of Gratitude

I woke up this morning with an Attitude of Gratitude. Maybe that sounds cheesy, but, you see, I am working hard at developing the habit of choosing just one or two little things to be grateful for each morning before I even step foot out of the bed, and today, I am simply grateful for life.

What are you grateful for today? A breakthrough in your career, healthy and happy children, perhaps a new lifestyle opportunity on the horizon? Maybe you’re in a ‘Character Building Season’ (I’m in one too!) and right now, being grateful for running water and electricity is all that you can muster. Been there, done that, am there now some days and that’s fine too.

Why?

Because Gratitude is an Attitude that we as Christian women get to wear each and every day. No Matter What. There are numerous mentions of the importance of expressing gratefulness throughout the Bible, so we know our Father God believes it’s important for our spiritual lives.

My favorite verse about how to express gratefulness in spiritual conversations with our Father is this one:

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

Did you also know that gratitude is good for our physical and mental health as well? According to Psychology Today, there are seven scientifically proven benefits of having an Attitude of Gratitude each and every day.

Here they are:

  1. Gratitude creates an opportunity for better relationships
  2. Gratefulness can promote longevity and improve health
  3. Gratitude can relieve you of toxic emotions and increase happiness
  4. Practicing gratitude can increase empathy and reduce aggression
  5. Gratitude can improve your self-esteem
  6. Practicing gratefulness can reduce stress and increase resilience
  7. Being grateful can improve your sleep

I mean, who couldn’t stand to have a bit more self-esteem and a better night’s rest? I know I for one could!

Do you start your day with an Attitude of Gratitude? Are you intentional about stopping to notice ‘the little things’ that make your life, yours? Have you gotten caught up in the hustle and bustle, trying to make ends meet, or are you perhaps currently living in ‘survival mode’?

It’s time to reclaim your happiness by cultivating an Attitude of Gratitude. Take a moment each and every day to acknowledge the gifts and blessings you’ve received, no matter the size. This one simple act can change your life for the better; mentally, physically, and spiritually. I dare you to try!
